Forgiveness First
One small admin move a day. No streak counters. No shame spiral. Pick any day. Start anywhere.
Missing a day doesn't break anything. Restarting is part of the program.
Each day has one task. The task is small. If all you do is the first part, that counts. The "if you're up for it" sections are optional. You can do the days in order, skip around, or come back to any day anytime. This page isn't going anywhere.
Optional
One short email per day for seven days - a reminder to come back and do the next thing. That's it. No newsletter.
The Reset works without this. Unsubscribe anytime.
Day One
You are not lazy because the mail pile still isn't sorted.
The task
Find where your unopened mail lives - the counter, the drawer, the inbox, wherever it's been sitting. Look at it.
That's the task. You looked at the pile. Done.
Pick up one piece of mail. You don't have to open it. Hold it. Read the return address. Notice who it's from.
Open it. Look at what's inside. If there's a due date, notice it. You don't have to write anything down - but if you want to, the Deluxe workbook has a spot for it.
Missing a day does not break the reset. Restarting is part of the program.
Day Two
Yesterday was about looking. Today is about finding.
The task
Think of one bill that's been on your mind. Find it - the paper version, the email, the app, wherever it lives. Locate it.
That's the task. You found it. Done.
Look at the amount due. Notice whether it's more or less than you expected. That's all - notice.
Check the due date and whether autopay is on. The Deluxe workbook has a one-bill triage sheet if you want to write it down, but you don't have to.
No decisions today. Facts first. Decisions later.
Missing a day does not break the reset.
Day Three
There's probably a portal or account you haven't logged into in a while.
The task
A medical site, a student loan servicer, a utility account, a benefits page. Pick one. Go to the login page.
That's the task. You went to the page. Done.
Log in. If you've forgotten the password, resetting it counts - password resets are not a detour, they're the task. Some days, getting past the login screen is the whole win.
Once you're in, look around. Notice anything with a due date or a red flag. You don't have to act on it. The Deluxe workbook has a portal log if you want to note what you found.
Starting is the hard part. We know.
Missing a day does not break the reset.
Day Four
You've spent three days looking at things. Today, you do one thing with one of them.
The task
Think of a form, renewal, or application that's been sitting unfinished or unopened. Find it and open it.
That's the task. You opened the form. Done.
Read through what's being asked. Get a sense of the shape of the thing - how many sections, what kind of information it wants.
Fill in whatever you can with information you already have. If you get stuck on one field, skip it. Half-filled is further than unopened. The Deluxe workbook has a tracker for what's needed to finish.
You don't have to finish it today. Started counts.
P.S. If you've been wanting to write things down as you go, the Reset Deluxe includes prompted worksheets for every day - bill triage sheets, portal logs, a Good Enough List with categories built in, and fill-in message scripts so Day 6 takes five minutes instead of twenty. More on that below ↓
Missing a day does not break the reset.
Day Five
Not everything. Just what comes to mind.
The task
Think of one admin thing that's been sitting in the back of your mind, besides what you've already looked at this week. Name it. Say it out loud, type it into your notes app, or think it clearly. One thing.
That's the task. You named one thing. Done.
Name a few more. Here are some categories to jog your memory - you don't have to have something in each one:
Write them down. The Deluxe workbook has a prompted Good Enough List with these categories built in. But even if you only named one thing out loud, that's the task.
This is not a to-do list you're behind on. It's a record of what's on your plate so it stops taking up space in your head.
Missing a day does not break the reset.
Day Six
That message. Let's make it easy.
The task
Think of the message you've been avoiding the longest. Picture who it's for.
That's the task. You identified it. Done.
Pick the script below that's closest to your situation and fill in the blanks. You don't have to write from scratch - that's what these are for.
Following up on something unanswered
Hi [name], following up on [what you sent/asked about] from [date]. Wanted to check whether you need anything else from me, or if there's an update on your end. Thanks.
Telling a provider about an issue
Hi [name], I wanted to flag [issue] at [address/account]. Could you let me know what the next step is? Thanks.
Asking for more time
Hi [name], I need a bit more time on [task/payment/form]. Is it possible to extend to [date]? Happy to provide anything you need in the meantime.
Responding to a notice
Hi [name], I received your note about [topic]. I wanted to confirm [what you need to confirm]. Let me know what you need from me next.
Save the message as a draft. You don't have to send it today. A saved draft is a real step. The Deluxe workbook has additional scripts for disputes, collections, and insurance.
Avoidance usually means the task started feeling overwhelming. The script makes it smaller.
Missing a day does not break the reset.
Day Seven
One next step. Not all of them.
The task
Think of the thing from this week that's been weighing on you the most. What is the one next action for it? A call, a login, an email, a payment.
That's the task. You decided the next step. Done.
Pick when you'll do it. Not a vague "soon" - an actual day. Put it in your calendar, set a phone reminder, or write it on a sticky note and put it where you'll see it.
That's maintenance mode. Not doing everything, just always knowing what's next. You can restart this Reset anytime - pick any day, start there, and go. The Deluxe workbook has a maintenance guide for keeping this going without building a whole new system.
You decided the next step. That's the whole Reset. Done.
Restarting is part of the program. Start over from Day 1 whenever you want.
